Recognized for its rich Mughal heritage, Agra is one of India’s most iconic tourist sites. Here are a few of the top attractions in Agra, along with information on how to get there, what to eat, where to find specialties, the weather, and when to visit.

  1. Taj Mahal Route: To get to the Taj Mahal, which is roughly 6-7 km away, use a local cab or vehicle from the ISBT Bus Stand or Agra Railway Station.
    Specialty: Constructed by Emperor Shah Jahan as a symbol of love for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, the Taj Mahal is one of the Seven Wonders of the World and an architectural masterpiece made of white marble.
    Food: There are a lot of restaurants serving North Indian food close to the Taj Mahal. Taste the popular Agra dessert Petha and Mughlai cuisine.

Weather: moderate in the winter (8–20°C), hot in the summer (up to 40°C).
The best time to visit is between October and March when the weather is nice for touring.

2. Agra Fort :

Agra Fort Route: You can walk or take a quick auto-rickshaw ride to go to the Taj Mahal, which is only 2.5 km away.
Specialty: The Agra Fort, a stunning red sandstone fort with a history connected to various Mughal emperors, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From the balconies of the fort, there are breathtaking views of the Taj Mahal.
cuisine: There are eateries around that provide bedai (local specialties), kachori, and chaat (Indian street cuisine).
Weather: in line with the Taj Mahal.

  1. The Fatehpur Sikri Route: This 40-kilometer route can be reached by bus or taxi from Agra. The trip takes approximately one hour.
    Expertise: Fatehpur Sikri, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, served as the Mughal Empire’s capital for a brief time. It is well-known for the Jama Masjid, Buland Darwaza, and exquisite palaces.
    Food: Local dhabas and restaurants offer Mughlai food, which you can sample while traveling.
    Weather: Similar to Agra.

  1. Baby Taj, Itimad-ud-Daulah:
    Route: Take an autorickshaw or a taxi to travel the 5–6 km from Agra Fort.
    Specialty: Known as the Baby Taj, this exquisite tomb provided the impetus for the construction of the Taj Mahal. This piece has exquisite and delicate marble inlay work.
    Food: Thali, a range of Indian foods such rice, veggies, dal, and chapati, is served at nearby eateries.
    Weather: The same as it is elsewhere in Agra.
